The Main Characteristics of Classic Greek Sculpture

The Main Characteristics of Classic Greek Sculpture Archaic Greeks were well known for developing the first freestanding statuary; up until then, most carvings were constructed out of walls and pillars as reliefs. Most of the freestanding statues were of young, winsome male or female (kore) Greeks and are termed kouros figures. Symbolizing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were designed to appear rigid and typically had foot forward; the males were healthy, strong, and nude. Around 650 BC, life-sized forms of the kouroi began to be observed. The Archaic period was an extraordinary time of change for the Greeks as they extended into new modes of government, produced unique expressions of art, and gained insights of the men and women and cultures outside of Greece. Throughout this time and other durations of historical tumultuousness, encounters often happened, most notably wars fought between city-states such as the Arcadian wars and the Spartan infiltration of Samos.

Keep Your Outdoor Garden Fountain Clean

Keep Your Outdoor Garden Fountain Clean Adequate care and regular maintenance are important to the longevity of water fountains.Keep Outdoor Garden Fountain Clean 53356637808.jpg A common problem with fountains is that they tend to gather dirt and debris, so it is essential that you keep it free from this. Additionally, anywhere light from the sun mixes with still water, algae can appear. Either sea salt, hydrogen peroxide, or vinegar can be blended into the water to eliminate this issue. There are those who prefer to use bleach, but that is harmful to any animals that might drink or bathe in the water - so should therefore be avoided.

A thorough cleaning every 3-4 months is recommended for garden fountains. The first task is to empty out all the water. Once it is empty, clean inside the reservoir with a gentle cleanser. If there are any small grooves, grab a toothbrush to get every spot. Be sure to completely rinse the inside of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.

Various organisms and calcium deposits may get inside the pump, so it is recommended to take it apart and clean it completely. To make it less strenuous, soak it in vinegar for a while before cleaning. Neither rain water nor mineral water contain components that will collect inside the pump, so use either over tap water if possible.

Finally, be sure to have a quick look at your fountain daily and add water if you notice that the level is too low. If the water level falls below the pump’s intake level, it can harm the pump and cause it to burn out - something you don't want to happen!
