The force applied falls into one of two categories: external force or hydrostatic energy. When used against a level surface, the liquid exerts equal force against all points of that surface. All points on an object’s surface are affected by vertical pressure when the object is totally submerged in a liquid that’s in a state of equilibrium. We refer to this concept as Archimedes’ principle, which deals with the forces of buoyancy. Generally, hydrostatic pressure on a point of liquid is a product of the hydrostatic force exerted on it. The containers that make up a city’s fountains, wells, and its water supply system are applications of these techniques.

The Source of Today's Outdoor Water Fountains

The Source of Today's Outdoor Water Fountains Pope Nicholas V, himself a learned man, governed the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455 during which time he commissioned many translations of old classical Greek texts into Latin.Source Today's Outdoor Water Fountains 0883980300.jpg In order to make Rome deserving of being the capital of the Christian world, the Pope resolved to enhance the beauty of the city. Beginning in 1453, the ruined ancient Roman aqueduct known as the Aqua Vergine which had brought fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, underwent restoration at the behest of the Pope. A mostra, a monumental commemorative fountain constructed by ancient Romans to mark the point of arrival of an aqueduct, was a custom which was restored by Nicholas V. The architect Leon Battista Alberti was commissioned by the Pope to build a wall fountain where we now find the Trevi Fountain. The Trevi Fountain as well as the well-known baroque fountains found in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona were eventually supplied with water from the altered aqueduct he had reconstructed.

Ancient Greece: Architectural Statuary

Ancient Greece: Architectural Statuary A good number of sculptors were paid by the temples to accentuate the elaborate columns and archways with renderings of the gods until the stage came to a close and countless Greeks started to think of their religion as superstitious rather than sacred, when it became more typical for sculptors to represent ordinary people as well. Portraiture, which would be recognized by the Romans upon their annexation of Greek society became traditional as well, and wealthy families would often commission a portrait of their forebears to be added in immense familial tombs. A point of aesthetic enhancement, the use of sculpture and other art forms transformed through the Greek Classical period, so it is inexact to say that the arts served only one function. It may possibly be the advanced quality of Greek sculpture that captivates our eye today; it was on a leading-edge practice of the classic world whether it was created for religious purposes or artistic pleasure.
