The One Cleaning Solution to NEVER Use On Your Garden Fountains
The One Cleaning Solution to NEVER Use On Your Garden Fountains Appropriate care and regular maintenance are important to the longevity of water fountains. Leaves, twigs, and insects very often find their way into fountains, so it is essential to keep yours free from such things. Additionally, anywhere light from the sun combines with still water, algae can develop. To prevent this, take vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or sea salt and add right into the water. Some people opt for pouring bleach into the water, but the downside is that it harms wildlife - so it should be avoided.
Every three-four months, garden fountains should undergo a serious cleaning. Prior to cleaning, all of the water must be removed. When it is empty, wash inside the reservoir with a gentle cleanser. Feel free to use a toothbrush if helpful for any smaller crevasses. Be sure to carefully rinse the inside of the fountain to make sure all the soap is gone.
It is highly recommended taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and get rid of any plankton or calcium. Letting it soak in vinegar for several hours first will make it much easier to clean. Neither rain water nor mineral water contain ingredients that will collect inside the pump, so use either over tap water if possible.
Lastly, make sure your fountain is always full by checking on it every day - this will keep it in tip-top shape. Allowing the water to go below the pump’s intake level, can cause severe damage and even make the pump burn out - an undesired outcome!
