Statuary As a Staple of Classic Art in Archaic Greece
Statuary As a Staple of Classic Art in Archaic Greece The Archaic Greeks built the 1st freestanding statuary, an impressive achievement as most sculptures up until then had been reliefs cut into walls and pillars. For the most part the statues, or kouros figures, were of young and nice-looking male or female (kore) Greeks. Symbolizing beauty to the Greeks, the kouroi were created to appear rigid and always had foot forward; the males were healthy, sturdy, and naked. Around 650 BC, life-sized variations of the kouroi began to be observed. The Archaic period was turbulent for the Greeks as they evolved into more sophisticated forms of federal government and art, and gained more information about the peoples and civilizations outside of Greece. However, these conflicts did little to hamper the development of the Greek civilization.A Solar Powered Fountain?
A Solar Powered Fountain?
Your monthly electric bill will most likely increase with running water fountains. The short-term perks may not be noticeable, but keep in mind that the increased value of your home will be later on.
The increased expenses resulting from using more electricity is not the only factor, it also harms our eco-system. Becoming “green” is just one of the pluses of setting up a solar water fountain running only on the power of the sun. The eco-system can only benefit from the use of solar powered homes and water fountains.
This type of fountain needs less upkeep than others. Since these do not function using an electric motor that could clog up with clutter, they need little cleaning. Which ultimately means more time to relax in your yard.
Anglo-Saxon Gardens During the Norman Conquest
Anglo-Saxon Gardens During the Norman Conquest The arrival of the Normans in the second half of the 11th century considerably altered The Anglo-Saxon ways of living. At the time of the conquest, the Normans surpassed the Anglo-Saxons in building design and cultivation. However the Normans had to pacify the overall territory before they could concentrate on home life, domestic architecture, and decoration. Castles were more standard constructions and often constructed on blustery hills, where their tenants spent both time and space to exercising offense and defense, while monasteries were considerable stone buildings, regularly located in the widest, most fruitful hollows. Gardening, a placid occupation, was unfeasible in these unproductive fortifications. Berkeley Castle is probably the most intact model in existence today of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture. The keep is reported to have been developed during the time of William the Conqueror.
