The Godfather Of Rome's Fountains
The Godfather Of Rome's Fountains In Rome’s city center, there are many celebrated water features. Almost all of them were designed, designed and built by one of the greatest sculptors and designers of the 17th century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Traces of his life's work are apparent throughout the roads of Rome because, in addition to his abilities as a fountain creator, he was also a city builder. To fully reveal their art, mainly in the form of community water fountains and water features, Bernini's father, a celebrated Florentine sculptor, mentored his young son, and they ultimately relocated in the City of Rome. The young Bernini received encouragement from Popes and influential artists alike, and was an exceptional employee. His sculpture was originally his claim to celebrity. Working faultlessly with Roman marble, he utilized a base of expertise in the historical Greek architecture, most famously in the Vatican. Although a variety of artists impacted his artistic endeavors, Michelangelo influenced him the most.
The Source of Modern Wall Fountains
The Source of Modern Wall Fountains The translation of hundreds of ancient Greek texts into Latin was commissioned by the scholarly Pope Nicholas V who led the Church in Rome from 1397 until 1455. In order to make Rome worthy of being the capital of the Christian world, the Pope resolved to embellish the beauty of the city. At the behest of the Pope, the Aqua Vergine, a ruined aqueduct which had carried clean drinking water into Rome from eight miles away, was renovated starting in 1453. A mostra, a monumental celebratory fountain built by ancient Romans to mark the point of entry of an aqueduct, was a tradition which was restored by Nicholas V. The architect Leon Battista Alberti was commissioned by the Pope to construct a wall fountain where we now find the Trevi Fountain. The Trevi Fountain as well as the renowned baroque fountains located in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona were eventually supplied with water from the altered aqueduct he had rebuilt.
