Rome’s Ingenious Water Transport Systems

Rome’s Ingenious Water Transport Systems Prior to 273, when the first elevated aqueduct, Aqua Anio Vetus, was built in Rome, citizens who resided on hills had to journey even further down to gather their water from natural sources. Outside of these aqueducts and springs, wells and rainwater-collecting cisterns were the lone technological innovations obtainable at the time to supply water to areas of high elevation. In the early sixteenth century, the city began to use the water that flowed below the ground through Acqua Vergine to supply water to Pincian Hill. Pozzi, or manholes, were built at standard intervals along the aqueduct’s channel. During the roughly 9 years he had the residence, from 1543 to 1552, Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi employed these manholes to take water from the channel in containers, though they were initially built for the intent of cleaning and servicing the aqueduct. He didn’t get sufficient water from the cistern that he had constructed on his property to collect rainwater.Rome’s Ingenious Water Transport Systems 03566204268.jpg To provide himself with a much more effective system to gather water, he had one of the manholes exposed, giving him access to the aqueduct below his property.

The Various Construction Materials of Fountains

The Various Construction Materials of Fountains Most contemporary garden fountains come in metal, although various other types exist.Various Construction Materials Fountains 81595701565547.jpg Metallic versions offer clean lines and unique sculptural accents and will fit in with nearly any decorative style and budget. Your outdoor design should complement the style of your home.

At present, copper is quite common for sculptural garden fountains. Copper is appropriate for many fountain styles, including tabletop and cascade water fountains, and can be put inside or outside - making it a great choice. Another benefit of copper fountains is they are flexible and come in a wide range of styles.

Brass water fountains are also common, though they tend to have a more classic look than copper ones. Even though they are a bit old-fashioned, brass fountains are quite common because they often incorporate interesting artwork.

The most contemporary metal right now is perhaps stainless steel. For an instant increase in the value and serenity of your garden, get one of the contemporary steel designs. As with any type of fountain, they are available in numerous sizes.

Fiberglass is a common material for fountains because you can get the look and feel of metal at a much lower price, and it is lighter weight and easier to move than metal. It is easy to clean and maintain a fiberglass water fountain, yet another reason they are trendy.
