Keeping Your Garden Water fountain Tidy
Keeping Your Garden Water fountain Tidy Water fountains will last a long time with routine cleaning and maintenance. It is important to clean it out and get rid of any debris or foreign elements that might have gotten into or onto it. Also, algae is likely to build up anywhere natural light meets water. To prevent this, there are some simple ingredients that can be mixed into the water, such as vinegar, sea salt, or hydrogen peroxide. Bleach can also be mixed into the water, however this is not the ideal option because it can sicken birds or other animals.Experts recommend that the typical garden fountain undergoes a thorough scouring every 3-4 months. The initial step is to empty out all of the water. Once it is empty, scrub inside the reservoir with a gentle cleanser. A good tip is to use a toothbrush if there are tiny hard-to-reach spots. Do not leave any soap residue inside or on the fountain.
It is highly suggested taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and eliminate any plankton or calcium. Letting it soak in vinegar for a few hours first will make it alot easier to clean. Mineral or rain water, versus tap water, is ideal in order to prevent any build-up of chemicals inside the pump.
And finally, make sure the water level is always full in order to keep your fountain operating smoothly. If the water level slides below the pump’s intake level, it can harm the pump and cause it to burn out - something you do not want to happen!
