Back Story of Wall Fountains
Back Story of Wall Fountains
The translation of hundreds of classic Greek texts into Latin was commissioned by the scholarly Pope Nicholas V who led the Church in Rome from 1397 until 1455. In order to make Rome worthy of being the capital of the Christian world, the Pope decided to embellish the beauty of the city. Reconstruction of the Acqua Vergine, a desolate Roman aqueduct which had carried clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away, began in 1453 at the bidding of the Pope. Building a mostra, an imposing celebratory fountain built by ancient Romans to memorialize the arrival point of an aqueduct, was a tradition revived by Nicholas V. The present-day location of the Trevi Fountain was formerly occupied by a wall fountain commissioned by the Pope and constructed by the architect Leon Battista Alberti. Modifications and extensions, included in the restored aqueduct, eventually supplied the Trevi Fountain and the well-known baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona with the necessary water supply.
Your Landscape Fountain: Upkeep & Routine Service
Your Landscape Fountain: Upkeep & Routine Service An important first step before installing any outdoor wall fountain is to analyze the room you have available.
In order to hold up its total weight, a solid wall is needed. Areas or walls which are smaller will require a lightweight fountain. An electrical socket near the fountain is needed to power the fountain. Whatever the style of outdoor wall fountain you select, they generally come with easy to understand, step-by-step instructions. Most outdoor wall fountains come in easy-to-use kits that will provide you all you need to properly install it. The kit will contain a submersible pump, the hoses and basin (or reservoir). The basin can normally be hidden away among your garden plants if it is not too big. Other than the regular cleaning, little servicing is required once your outdoor wall fountain is fitted.
Replenish and clean the water on a regular schedule. Debris such as branches, leaves or dirt should be cleared away quickly. Ensure that your outdoor wall fountain is protected from bitterly cold winter temperatures. Bring your pump inside when the weather turns very cold and freezes the water so as to eliminate any possible harm, such as cracking. All in all, an outdoor wall fountain can last for any number of years with proper upkeep and care.
