A Chronicle of Outdoor Fountains
A Chronicle of Outdoor Fountains Hundreds of classic Greek records were translated into Latin under the authority of the scholarly Pope Nicholas V, who led the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455. He undertook the embellishment of Rome to make it into the worthy capital of the Christian world. Beginning in 1453, the ruined ancient Roman aqueduct known as the Aqua Vergine which had brought fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, underwent repair at the bidding of the Pope. The ancient Roman tradition of building an imposing commemorative fountain at the point where an aqueduct arrived, also known as a mostra, was resurrected by Nicholas V. At the bidding of the Pope, architect Leon Battista Alberti undertook the construction of a wall fountain in the spot where we now find the Trevi Fountain.
The Trevi Fountain as well as the well-known baroque fountains located in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona were eventually supplied with water from the modified aqueduct he had reconstructed.
California's Outdoor Fountain Research and Results
California's Outdoor Fountain Research and Results In February 2014, a charge on sugar-sweetened beverages was enacted in Berkley, CA, making it the first city in the United States to submit such a regulation. The tax is supposed to lower sugary drink intake and increase the consumption of healthier drinks, including water from fountains. Attempts were made to find out the condition of local drinking water fountains in both high- and low-income neighborhoods. By creating a mobile GPS application, specialists were able to get data on Berkley’s drinking water fountains. The US Census Community Study database was chosen to amass information related to race and economic status in these locations. The two data sets were compared to identify what class disparities, if any, there were in access to functioning water fountains. The research was able to pinpoint the demographics of areas with water fountains, also observing whether the state of the fountains was better or worse in lower class neighborhoods. The fact that the fountains were functioning was not a guarantee that they were well-maintained, as quite a few were in need of cleaning and repair.
