Public Water Fountains in and Around Berkley, Ca
Public Water Fountains in and Around Berkley, Ca
In February 2014, a taxation on sugar-sweetened beverages was approved in Berkley, CA, making it the first city in the United States to introduce such a regulation. By taxing sugary drinks, the city hopes to inspire more people to choose healthier choices, such as water. First, the city conducted an analysis to assess whether citizens had easy access to functioning drinking water fountains. The research utilized a GPS app to collect data on current water fountains in the city. Demographic data on race and earnings was then assembled using the US Census database. The professionals looked to use both data sets to figure out if demographics were interconnected to drinking water fountain access. They were able to confirm the demographics of locations surrounding existing fountains, as well as the tidiness and maintenance of fountains across different areas. Many of the water fountains were not clean or slow or stopped up, regardless of the fact that most fountains worked.
The Influence of the Norman Conquest on Anglo Saxon Gardens
The Influence of the Norman Conquest on Anglo Saxon Gardens The introduction of the Normans in the second half of the eleventh century irreparably altered The Anglo-Saxon lifestyle. The Normans were better than the Anglo-Saxons at architecture and horticulture when they came into power. But home life, household architecture, and decoration were out of the question until the Normans taken over the general population. Monasteries and castles served separate purposes, so while monasteries were massive stone structures constructed in only the most fruitful, wide dales, castles were set upon blustery knolls where the people focused on learning offensive and defensive practices. The barren fortresses did not provide for the peaceful avocation of gardening. Berkeley Castle is perhaps the most complete model in existence today of the early Anglo-Norman form of architecture. The keep is reported to have been developed during the time of William the Conqueror. A big terrace recommended for exercising and as a way to stop enemies from mining below the walls runs around the building.
A scenic bowling green, enveloped in grass and surrounded by battlements clipped out of an ancient yew hedge, makes one of the terraces.
