A Chronicle of Garden Fountains
A Chronicle of Garden Fountains Pope Nicholas V, himself a learned man, ruled the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455 during which time he commissioned many translations of old classic Greek documents into Latin. He undertook the beautification of Rome to make it into the model capital of the Christian world. Beginning in 1453, the ruined ancient Roman aqueduct known as the Aqua Vergine which had brought fresh drinking water into the city from eight miles away, underwent restoration at the behest of the Pope. Building a mostra, a grandiose commemorative fountain built by ancient Romans to memorialize the arrival point of an aqueduct, was a tradition revived by Nicholas V. The architect Leon Battista Alberti was directed by the Pope to construct a wall fountain where we now find the Trevi Fountain.
The aqueduct he had refurbished included modifications and extensions which eventually enabled it to supply water to the Trevi Fountain as well as the renowned baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona.
Hydro-Statics & Public Fountains: An Overview
Hydro-Statics & Public Fountains: An Overview When in equilibrium, liquid delivers force to its container or any other material it comes in contact with. These fall into two types, hydrostatic load or outside force. The pressure level applied by the liquid against a level wall is identical at every single point where it makes contact with the wall. An object that’s completely submerged in a fluid that’s in equilibrium experiences vertical energy on all points of its body. We refer to this concept as Archimedes’ principle, which deals with the forces of buoyancy. Usually, hydrostatic pressure on a point of liquid is a product of the hydrostatic force applied on it. A city’s water supply system, fountains, and artesian wells are all examples of the application of these principles on containers.
