The earliest stone basins are thought to be from about 2000 BC. The spraying of water appearing from small spouts was pushed by gravity, the sole power source creators had in those days. These ancient water fountains were built to be functional, often situated along aqueducts, creeks and waterways to supply drinking water. Fountains with embellished Gods, mythological beasts, and animals began to show up in Rome in about 6 BC, made from rock and bronze. The impressive aqueducts of Rome supplied water to the eye-catching public fountains, most of which you can travel to today.
