Outdoor Water Features Recorded by History
Outdoor Water Features Recorded by History As originally developed, water fountains were crafted to be practical, guiding water from streams or aqueducts to the citizens of towns and settlements, where the water could be utilized for cooking food, cleaning, and drinking. A source of water higher in elevation than the fountain was necessary to pressurize the movement and send water squirting from the fountain's spout, a technology without equal until the later part of the 19th century. Striking and spectacular, prominent water fountains have been built as monuments in nearly all civilizations. The common fountains of today bear little resemblance to the very first water fountains. Basic stone basins created from nearby rock were the first fountains, used for spiritual ceremonies and drinking water. 2000 B.C. is when the oldest known stone fountain basins were actually used. The force of gravity was the energy source that controlled the initial water fountains. Positioned near aqueducts or creeks, the practical public water fountains supplied the local population with fresh drinking water. Fountains with ornate decoration started to show up in Rome in approx. 6 BC, commonly gods and animals, made with stone or copper-base alloy. The impressive aqueducts of Rome delivered water to the spectacular public fountains, many of which you can go see today.

Archaeological excavations in Minoan Crete in Greece have exposed several varieties of conduits. They not solely helped with the water sources, they extracted rainwater and wastewater as well. The primary components employed were stone or clay. Terracotta was utilized for waterways and pipelines, both rectangle-shaped and circular. There are a couple of illustrations of Minoan terracotta conduits, those with a shortened cone form and a U-shape which have not been caught in any culture since. Terracotta pipes were put down under the floor surfaces at Knossos Palace and utilized to circulate water. Along with disbursing water, the clay pipes of the Minoans were also utilized to accumulate water and store it. This required the terracotta pipes to be suitable for holding water without leaking. Subterranean Water Transportation: It’s not quite known why the Minoans needed to transport water without it being seen. Quality Water Transportation: Many historians feel that these conduits were used to generate a different distribution system for the castle.
