Keeping Your Fountain Tidy

A complete cleaning every three-four months is best for garden fountains. Before cleaning, all the water must be removed. Next use mild soap and a soft sponge to clean the innner part of the reservoir. Feel free to use a toothbrush if helpful for any stubborn crevasses. Make sure all the soap is properly washed off.
It is highly recommended taking the pump apart to better clean the inside and get rid of any plankton or calcium. To make it less strenuous, soak it in vinegar for a while before cleaning. Neither rain water nor mineral water contain components that will collect inside the pump, so use either over tap water if possible.
Lastly, make sure your fountain is always full by looking at it every day - this will keep it in tip-top condition. Allowing the water to drop below the pump’s intake level, can cause severe damage and even make the pump burn out - an undesired outcome!
