The Beginnings of Modern Wall Fountains
The Beginnings of Modern Wall Fountains Pope Nicholas V, himself a learned man, reigned the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455 during which time he commissioned many translations of old classic Greek texts into Latin. In order to make Rome deserving of being the capital of the Christian world, the Pope decided to embellish the beauty of the city. In 1453 the Pope instigated the reconstruction of the Aqua Vergine, an ancient Roman aqueduct which had carried clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away. A mostra, a monumental dedicatory fountain constructed by ancient Romans to mark the point of entry of an aqueduct, was a practice which was revived by Nicholas V. The present-day site of the Trevi Fountain was formerly occupied by a wall fountain commissioned by the Pope and built by the architect Leon Battista Alberti. The water which eventually supplied the Trevi Fountain as well as the renown baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona came from the modified aqueduct which he had renovated. The First Garden Fountains of Human History
The First Garden Fountains of Human History As initially conceived, water fountains were designed to be functional, guiding water from creeks or aqueducts to the residents of towns and villages, where the water could be utilized for cooking, washing, and drinking. A supply of water higher in elevation than the fountain was required to pressurize the movement and send water spraying from the fountain's spout, a system without equal until the later part of the nineteenth century. Fountains throughout history have been crafted as memorials, impressing hometown citizens and tourists alike. If you saw the earliest fountains, you would not identify them as fountains.

Hydro-Statics & Features: The Fundamentals
Hydro-Statics & Features: The Fundamentals Liquid in a state of equilibrium exerts force on the objects it touches, including its container. These fall into two groupings, hydrostatic load or outside force. When pushing against a level wall, the fluid applies equal force at assorted points on the wall. All points on an object’s surface are affected by vertical pressure when the object is totally submerged in a liquid that’s in a state of equilibrium.
