The History of Fountains

The History of Fountains Hundreds of ancient Greek texts were translated into Latin under the authority of the scholarly Pope Nicholas V, who ruled the Roman Catholic Church from 1397 to 1455.History Fountains 691592850777135963.jpg Beautifying Rome and making it the worthy capital of the Christian world was at the heart of his objectives. In 1453 the Pope commissioned the rebuilding of the Aqua Vergine, an ancient Roman aqueduct which had carried clean drinking water into the city from eight miles away. The ancient Roman tradition of building an awe-inspiring commemorative fountain at the location where an aqueduct arrived, also known as a mostra, was revived by Nicholas V. The present-day location of the Trevi Fountain was previously occupied by a wall fountain commissioned by the Pope and constructed by the architect Leon Battista Alberti. The aqueduct he had refurbished included modifications and extensions which eventually enabled it to supply water to the Trevi Fountain as well as the renowned baroque fountains in the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza Navona.

Public Water Fountains in and Around Berkley, California

Public Water Fountains in and Around Berkley, California In February 2014, a levy on sugar-sweetened beverages was enacted in Berkley, CA, making it the first city in the United States to submit such a regulation. The objective is to get men and women drinking more water and other natural drinks by elevating the price of soda and other sugar-sweetened drinks. The aim of the research was to evaluate the state of community drinking water fountains and figure out if there is a distinction in access to fresh, operating drinking fountains based on racial or economic components. By developing a mobile GPS application, specialists were able to amass data on Berkley’s drinking water fountains. The US Census Community Study database was chosen to compile information relating to race and economic status in these locations. The research workers sought to use both data sets to figure out if demographics were linked to drinking water fountain access. Each water fountain and the demographics of its neighboring area were analyzed to reveal whether the location of the fountains or their standard of maintenance exhibited any correlation to income, race, or other factors. The fact that the fountains were working was not a guarantee that they were well-maintained, given that quite a few were in need of cleaning and repair.
